Mooreland Bearcats Football Preview – Presented by Great Plains Bank of Woodward

MOORELAND BEARCATS

Coach: JAKE ALLEN

5-6

OFFENSE

Last season’s start was not what the Bearcats wanted, but they did not give up and they pushed through and made it into the playoffs. With an 0-3 start, things were not looking good, but they ended the season with a 5-2 run and were able to secure a playoff berth. While they lost a heartbreaker in the first round, the team showed perseverance and refused to quit. They will be looking to build off of that as they enter this 2024 season. Leading the offense this season will be quarterback Bodhi Allen (5-7, 155, Sr.), who threw for 600 yards and rushed for 400 yards last season. He will continue to be a dual threat, causing problems for the defense. Alongside him in the backfield will be two outstanding backs. Fullback Kaden Overton (6-1, 205, Sr.) rushed for 1,300 yards last season, while running back Grayson Bridges (6-0, 165, Sr.) had 650 yards on the ground. Dillon Weil (5-9, 165, Jr.) will also be at running back and will look to make an impact on the season. Tight end Carter Cummings (6-3, 180, Sr.) is going to be a target for Allen to get the ball to, while also being a blocker when needed. Anchoring the offensive line will be Baylor Short (5-10, 185, Jr.).

DEFENSE

The Bearcats’ defense will continue to play tough and physical and work to disrupt their opponents plans. Overton and Short will be back at linebackers this season after dominant performances last year. Overton ended last season with 110 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and an interception, while Short had 85 tackles and a fumble recovery. In the secondary, Allen and Weil will be ready to defend any passes thrown their way. Last season, they combined for 92 tackles and an interception. On the defensive line, Briggs Allen (6-0, 165, So.) and Bridges will work to cause problems for opponents and wreak havoc with their plans. Bridges ended last season with 47 tackles and Allen added in 25 tackles. Assistant coaches this season are Shaun Zollinger and Clay Stevens.
