LAVERNE TIGERS

Coach: MATT COX

10-2

OFFENSE

The Tigers are coming into this season ready to get back to the championship game. After winning state championships in 2021 and 2022, the Tigers made an early second-round exit from the playoffs last season. Head coach Matt Cox says that his team is made up of good players that he thinks has a shot to get them back. “We will be working to get back on track after coming off a disappointing season,” he said. “The team will be led by a solid group of seniors and will feature several underclassmen in prominent roles.” One of the key players on offense this season will be Felix Teal (5-9, 180, Sr.). He is an explosive athlete that has a lot of game time experience. He was a running back on the 2021 team and quarterback on the 2022 team. An injury sidelined him for most of the 2023 season, so he is looking to get back to being a dominant runner this season. Wyatt Tillery (6-0, 185, Jr.) is a great kid that will lead the offense at quarterback. He is a hard worker that is always trying to improve his game. The skill players to keep an eye on this year are Trex Carnagey (6-1, 175, Jr.) and Zak Masters (5-7, 150). Carnagey will see time at tight end and wide receiver, while Masters will play both running back and wide receiver. Both will look to be impact players for the Tigers this season.

DEFENSE

The defense has a focus of stopping the run, being great tacklers, and limiting the big plays of their opponents. Tyler Cook (5-11, 240, Sr.) will play nose guard this season and he will try to disrupt the plans of the opposing offense. He is a strong and physical athlete that will not back down. At linebacker, Tayden Hope (5-9, 165, Sr.) will play linebacker where he will have to have his head on a swivel and be ready for whatever the offense throws his way. Teal will anchor the secondary, where he is a dynamic defender against the pass. The Tigers’ assistant coaches this season will be Jasper Smiley and Brogan Sears.
