Last season was a good one for the Lady Bulldogs, but they are not satisfied with just being good. They are ready to hit the court this season and play longer in the postseason. “We return all five starters from an Area Tournament team,” said head coach Austin Elliiott. “With the experience that we have coming back we are looking to go deep into the playoffs. These girls are ready for the upcoming season.” Izabella Neville (5-7, Sr.) is a three-year starter and will play at guard.
She led the team in scoring, rebounding, steals, deflections, and was second on the team in assists last year. Izabella is a hard worker, spends a ton of time in the gym working on her game. Not only does she excel on the court she also excels in the classroom. Another member of the team that will have an impact is Rubi Hernandez (5-10, Jr.). She will also play at guard and has been a two-year starter. Last season, she averaged seven points per game and was second on the team in steals per game with two per game. Defensively she guards the other team’s best guard. Devry Metcalf (5-7, Sr.) is a three-year starter and was on a state semifinal team as a freshman. Devry is undersized but does not play that way.
She is a great defensive player and usually has to guard the other team’s best post player. Other members of the team looking to be contributors are Crisbel Rios (5-7, Sr.), Analisee Gonzalaz (5-8, Sr.), Sayde McBride (5-6, Sr.), Alondra Rios (5-8, Sr.), Allie Metcalf (5-9, Jr.), Yedelin DeHerrera (5-4, Jr.), Mollie Baird (5-6, Jr.), Ana DeHerrera (5-4, So.), Summer Fischer (5-10, So.), Jasmin Rendon (5-6, So.), Gisela Gomez (5-6, Jr.), Josie Davis (5-6, So.), Dulce Rios (5-8, So.), Finley Duncan (5-6, Fr.), Marisa Borunda (5-10, Fr.), and Kimberly Moreno (5-4, Fr.). Elliott’s assistant coaches are Fidel Velasquez and Ethan Kennedy.
