HOOKER BULLDOGS
Coach: TREVOR POWERS
12-3
OFFENSE
The Bulldogs had an outstanding season last year, advancing to the Class A State Championship game. And though they fell just short of their goal, head coach Trevor Powers says that with the experience that they have coming back, he and his team are looking to go deep into the playoffs again this season. “Our goals remain high at Hooker after a State Championship appearance last season,” Powers said. “We bring back nine starters on offense and ten on defense. These guys have played a ton of football over the last several years and are excited to make another run.” Leading the charge for the offense will be quarterback Kleat Martens (5-10, 165, Sr.). He had a solid season a year ago with 1,300 yards passing and 1,138 yards on the ground and 27 total touchdowns. Joining him in the backfield is a workhorse of a running back in Justin Palacios (5-9, 170, So.). As a freshman last year, he rushed for 1,748 yards and 21 touchdowns. A target for Martens on the outside will be Trace Duncan (6-0, 175, Sr.) at wide receiver, who had eight touchdown receptions and 476 receiving yards last year. Rhett Nunley (6-3, 325, Sr.) and Cale Metcalf (6-3, 220, Sr.) are going to be key players on the offensive line.
DEFENSE
On the defensive side, the Bulldogs have a number of playmakers back and ready to continue to play strong. Aydan Woolridge (5-10, 175, Jr.) is back at linebacker after accumulating 162 tackles last season. Joining him at linebacker is Daniel Quezada (5-8, 155, Sr.), who ended last season with 103 tackles. The guys up on the defensive line will work to create havoc for the opponents and disrupt their plans. Defensive ends Peyton Parker (6-1, 235, Sr.) and Nate Hidalgo (6-8, 225, Sr.) and defensive tackle Jonathan Cano (6-0, 230, Sr.) combined for 224 tackles and six sacks. They are expected to have a similar impact this season. Patrolling the secondary will be Keilan Robinson (6-2, 170, Jr.) at defensive back. Over the past two seasons, he has totaled 17 interceptions. He also had an interception in three consecutive playoff games last season. Assistant coaches are Travis Johnson, Jace Kerr, Dayton Metcalf, Tanner McBee, and Eric Yarbrough.
