From the moment he first watched his father and older brother play, Landon Garcia knew soccer would be a part of his life.
Now a junior at Guymon High School, he has already built an impressive career, earning a varsity spot as a freshman and becoming a team captain as a sophomore.
“It was a lot of pressure at first,” Garcia said. “But I knew I had to step up and lead the team the right way.”
Garcia, a midfielder, thrives in the heart of the field, where his vision and passing ability set the tone for his team. Last season, he helped guide Guymon to the playoffs, an experience he believes will fuel the team’s success this year.
“This season, I think we have what it takes to finish first in our district.”
One of his most memorable moments came in a game against El Reno, when he scored just 10 seconds after kickoff.
“It was off a rebound—my teammate passed it, I took a touch and hit it bottom left,” Garcia said. “That goal gave me a huge confidence boost.”
Garcia’s talent and leadership earned him first-team all-district honors last year, and he hopes to build on that success. His individual goals include leading the team in assists and securing another district championship.
Off the field, Garcia is just as dedicated. He ranks in the top 20 of his class, takes concurrent college courses and serves as an officer for the Business Professionals of America program.
He also dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer, inspired by a childhood fascination with spacecraft.
“I have always been interested in how things work,” Garcia said. “Math and science are my strengths, and I want to push myself in that field.”
Despite his academic ambitions, soccer remains a driving force in his life. He hopes to play at the collegiate level while pursuing his degree—and one day, he dreams of representing the Guatemalan national team.
“That’s my ultimate goal,” Garcia said. “I want to keep pushing myself and see how far I can go.”
