OFFENSE
The Tigers enter the 2024 campaign ready to make some noise and be there when the playoffs roll around. Head coach Jake Martinez says that his squad is bringing back a lot of talent
and he is looking forward to a great season. “This coming season expect the Tigers to take the next step in becoming the premier team of the panhandle,” he said. “The Tigers bring back 16 seniors and multiple starters.” Left tackle Conner Stelzer (6-3, 295, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line for the Tigers. Martinez
says that along with being a solid athlete, Stelzer is also a great teammate. “Conner is a phenomenal student-athlete, he represents not only the football team but our entire school in a very honorable way,” he said. “He has been part of community service projects outside of school on multiple occasions, has been a three-year star for the Tigers, a three-year team captain, and is a four-sport athlete.” Joining him on the offensive line will be Edgar Avilla (6-1, 220, Sr.) at right tackle. Leading the offense at quarterback will be Miguel Vargas (5-10, 190, Jr.). Vargas will have a couple of good targets to get the ball to in wide receivers Andy Ozaeta (5-7, 160, So.) and Malaki Martinez (5- 11, 165, Sr.). Damien Ozaeta (5-7, 150, Sr.) will see time at multiple positions because of his athleticism.
DEFENSE
The Tiger defense will look to keep their opponents in check and help keep their team in games. The secondary will be patrolled by Isaiah Dunnagan (5-6, 155, Jr.), D. Ozaeta, and A. Ozaeta. Last season saw Andy Ozaeta hit the scene and make an immediate impact. He started both ways for the Tigers and looks to continue that with solid play this season. At linebacker, Jonathan Christian (5-9, 185, Sr.) and Ramon Ochoa (5-8, 170, Jr.) will both have their heads on a swivel and be ready to attack when the ball is in play.
Assistant coaches for the Tigers this season will be Chad Foster, Victor Sigala, George Dominguez, Jaishone Brown, Princesa Vega, and Zeke Bermea.
