Waukomis High School’s Ava Milacek is a multisport athlete. Currently a junior, Ava plays both softball and basketball for the Waukomis High School Chiefs. In softball, Ava plays the position of shortstop, and in basketball, Ava plays wherever she is needed. Many would consider Ava a veteran of sports, having played softball since she was only 4 years old; Ava started playing basketball beginning in the 6th grade.
“Softball has been a very big part of my life and it teaches a lot more than wins and losses. It teaches leadership and important social skills.”
For Ava, it means a lot to her to represent her school and her community, every time she plays sports. Ava proclaimed, “It feels good to represent my school, especially since I go to a really small school that not many people in Oklahoma know about, so it feels good to be seen when we travel to play.”
Ava looks toward a family member as her biggest role model. Ava stated, “My mom is my biggest role model, as she is always there for me. I aspire to become like her.”
As far as her motivation, Ava explained, “Being successful and achieving goals motivates me.”
In terms of high school academics, there is one teacher that stands out the most to Ava. Ava stated, “My math teacher been the teacher with the impact on my life, because she understands our busy sports schedules and gives us extra time to turn in work.”
Many memories are made during the career of a student athlete. Ava stated her favorite memory was “When we made it to State in slow pitch.”
In addition to playing softball and basketball for the Waukomis Chiefs, Ava is a member of Student Council.
After graduating from high school, Ava plans on pursuing higher education, and continuing to play sports while in college. Ava stated, “I would like to play softball at the next level, in college.”
