The Lady Broncs fell just short of advancing to the state tournament last season. This year, they will work to get over that hump and play for a gold ball. “We have made the Area tournament the last three years,” said head coach Randy Vaught. “We only graduated two players from last year’s team and we added two talented freshmen. We will have a lot of team depth, as well as an incredibly quick and athletic team. Our full court run and jump should give a lot of teams problems this year.”
One player that will have an impact on the team’s success this season is Pepper Elmore (Sr.). She is an explosive slasher and she is hard to keep from getting to the rim. She averaged almost eight free throws a game last year. Maddy Lockhart (Jr.) is an outstanding basketball player. She has a very high IQ, is an elite passer, and a good scorer. Katy Jo Hayes (So.) will be starting at point guard this season. She sees the floor extremely well and she is a quick and good finisher at the rim. A force to deal with down low, Audryn Dehdezi (Sr.) will be starting at post.
She is extremely strong and was the team’s leading rebounder last year. Jadyn Castillon (Sr.) has received a lot of playing time over the last three years, but always has been a role player, and not a starter. She has great hands, and helps a lot defensively. Despite her limited role, she has never complained once about playing time, and is always ready to go when her number is called. Other players to keep an eye on this season are Linsey Lockhart (Sr.), Abbie LeCrone (Jr.), Lanie Atherton (So.), Chayley Nickeson (So.), Kinason Schieber (Fr.), and Reese Neal (Fr.).
