The Garber Lady Wolverines fell one game shy of advancing to the state tournament last season. As they begin a new season, they are looking to avenge last season and play for a gold ball. “Depth will be an asset for this year’s team,” said head coach Jamie Davis. “We return a strong nucleus from last year’s team and add a talented group of players to the mix. Good young talent will get experience early. We will rely heavily on freshman and sophomores to step up with the three upperclassmen that started or had significant minutes last year. Consistency of play will be key early in the season. Continuing to hold opponents will be crucial to this year’s defensively minded squad, with perhaps a nine to ten player rotation. The team has high expectations for the season.”
One of the seniors on this year’s squad is Chloe Wilkerson (5-4, Sr.). She plays hard every possession of the game and has a high motor. Chloe uses her quickness and aggressiveness on both ends of the floor. She is a pesky defender and has a knack for getting to the rim on offense. Kailyn Bond (5-10, So.) started as a freshman last year and had a good freshman campaign. With the graduation of three seniors, she is looking to play a bigger role for the Lady Wolverines. A freshman that will give the team some depth at point guard is Aubri Steinert (5-5, Fr.).
She can shoot the three well and can score off the dribble. Zoe Warden (5-4, Fr.) is exceptional on defense because of her quickness and active hands. She also has the uncanny ability to get to the basket with her explosiveness off the dribble. Other Lady Wolverines to watch out for this season are Calleigh Buttrum (5-4, Fr.), Mandi Bell (5-6, Jr.), Nevaeh Fincher (5-11, Jr.), Madalyn Dodds (6-0, Sr.), Baylee Wessels (5-7, Jr.), Madi Adair (5-6, So.), and Jenna Schmidt (5-7, Fr.).
