Q&A with Kingfisher’s Rhett Schlegel – Presented by Stillwater Women’s Clinic

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?

Rhett: I am a senior at Kingfisher High School and I play soccer.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Rhett: My junior year teacher, Mr. Thompson, and because he was a really understanding teacher that helped in any way he could. He would personally learn how his students learned or if situations came up he helped or would be understanding. And he also taught life skills very well and would help you with anything you need or had questions on. I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. Especially for how truthful and honest he was on questions, he was also a really funny guy.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Rhett: My freshman year our defender, Uriel Del La Torre, because he was always trying and working hard, never was a negative person and always tried to keep everyone going.

VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?

Rhett: Going to the playoffs and making history for our school, going the farthest we ever have and winning a playoff game.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?

Rhett: It has taught me patience in life, and also how to deal with keeping cool and calm in situations even when it’s hard to.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Rhett: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Rhett: My dad, because he is such a hard worker and is always doing something that needs done or could be helpful. He is the hardest working person I know and would love to be half the man he is. He knows how to do and fix so many things, and if he doesn’t he will figure it.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Rhett: I get to be apart of something and have fun during high school and not waste my high school years.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Rhett: I want to say thank you to my mom for always being there and pushing me even when I didn’t want to, and God for allowing me to be where and who I am today.
