Q&A with Medford’s Cash Kelley – Presented by Elizabeth Hiatt – Shelter Insurance

Medford senior and starting QB Cash Kelley is known for being one of the hardest workers on the field. VYPE did a quick Q&A with him to find out a little more.

VYPE: How long have you played football?

Cash: I started playing football when I was in second grade, so nine years total.

VYPE: What first got you interested in the sport?

Cash: Growing up around the game and watching my older cousins compete sparked my interest in playing football. However, going to Norman and watching the OU Sooners played a large part in my love for the game.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite memory in your time competing for your high school?

Cash: There are so many that I struggle narrowing it down to just one, but the memory that sticks out most is beating Welch on our home field to secure the spot as district champions.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite opponent to compete against? If so, why?

Cash: My favorite opponent to play against would have to be the Pond Creek-Hunter Panthers, because the rivalry runs thick into the Medford Cardinal legacy.

VYPE: What do your teammates mean to you? Is there anyone on the team who pushes you to sharpen your skills?

Cash: Each person on my team plays a special role to better me on and off the field. My teammates mean everything to me. We are side by side on and off the field and always have each other’s backs.

VYPE: Do you have any pre-game or post-game rituals?

Cash: A pre-game ritual of mine would be listening to music and having quiet time in prayer before the whistle blows.

VYPE: Who do you look to as a role model and why?

Cash: The people I look up to are my mom and dad. They push me beyond my limits and are there when the buzzer goes off. They always show up and are right by my side. My grandfather, David Bailey, is also a huge role model for me. He is an Oklahoma 8-Man Hall of Fame coach and started a legacy over 50 years ago that I am striving to continue.

VYPE: Are you involved in any other sports or activities?

Cash: I’m involved in football, basketball, track, student council, FFA, and FCA.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

Cash: I’m not completely sure what I want to do after high school. However, I do know I want to go to college and earn a degree, possibly playing football as well.
