Alva’s Coleman Gaisford – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by OrthoOklahoma

Coleman Gaisford doesn’t slow down when the seasons change, he just switches uniforms. A junior at Alva High School, Gaisford balances three sports with a steady focus, moving from the baseball diamond to the football field to the basketball court without missing a beat. Whether he’s tracking a fly ball in center field, lining up at slot receiver, or bringing the ball up as a guard, his approach stays the same: compete, contribute, and stay connected to his team.

Baseball has been a standout stage for him. Last season, Gaisford earned Great Plains All-Conference honors, a recognition that reflected both his ability on the mound and his presence in the outfield. But for him, success has never been just about individual awards. The biggest lesson he’s learned through sports is the value of teamwork. He understands that talent alone won’t carry a team, trust and unity are what push a group forward.

That mindset didn’t develop overnight. Gaisford points to the influence of people around him, especially his family. His dad has been a constant source of motivation, pushing him to grow not only as an athlete but as a person. His brother, a former teammate, left a lasting impression as well, challenging him and helping shape his competitive edge.

Off the field, Gaisford still carries lessons from earlier years, including his sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. C, who made learning fun and brought energy into the classroom. That same positivity shows up in how he represents Alva High School today. Wearing his school’s name comes with pride, especially knowing the athletes who came before him and set the standard.

Gaisford also draws inspiration from Clayton Kershaw, a player he’s watched for years, imagining what it would be like to follow a similar path. For now, though, his focus remains on the present, putting in the work, supporting his teammates, and honoring the support system that’s always behind him.
