Buffalo’s Kasen Love – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by The Stock Exchange Bank

At Buffalo High School, sophomore Kasen Love is making a name for himself as a standout multi-sport athlete. Competing in basketball, football, track, and cross country, Kasen’s dedication and drive define his high school journey both on and off the field.

One of Kasen’s proudest moments came during an intense basketball game against Moreland. After two overtimes, he stepped to the free-throw line with the game on the line and sank the winning shot. That clutch moment captured his cool under pressure and passion for competition. In football, his efforts have also shone academically, earning him 2x Football Academic District honors.

“My sports have taught me always to be a team player,” Kasen said. “It’s also taught me how to lead a team. Even if you don’t win, you have to stay strong for your teammates.”

That sense of leadership and resilience has carried Kasen through both victory and adversity. He credits one teacher in particular, Mr. Buckhalts, who also coaches him in track and cross country, for helping him build that mindset.

“He’s always been there for me, at my worst and my best,” Kasen said. “He’s taught me how to stay strong through negativity and push through adversity.”

Kasen’s foundation of support runs deeper than school. He finds his greatest inspiration from his parents, who have been by his side through countless camps and AAU basketball games.

“They’ve taught me more than just basketball; they’ve taught me how to be a better person,” he said. “Without them, I don’t know where I’d be.”

When it comes to teammates, Kasen remembers how upperclassman Randy Rios took him under his wing as a freshman, showing him what leadership and toughness look like. Those lessons now guide how Kasen supports younger players.

He loves representing Buffalo High on the court, especially when the home crowd roars during big games. Against Leedey, he recalls, the gym’s energy was electric.

“It felt great to play in front of that crowd,” Kasen said. “Moments like that make it all worth it.”

For inspiration, Kasen looks to Oklahoma City legend Russell Westbrook, whose passion and intensity mirror his own.

“I’ve watched him since I was three,” he said. “He taught me how to be vocal and never to give up.”
