Woodward Boomers Baseball – Presented by The Stock Exchange Bank

The Woodward High School baseball team is stepping into a new season defined by growth, grit, and a renewed sense of purpose under head coach Travis Oakley. Now in the second year of a program overhaul, the Boomers are leaning into a youth movement that is already beginning to show promise.

After a productive offseason, Oakley believes his team is trending in the right direction, even if the path forward won’t be easy. “We’re a young team in year two of an overhaul,” Oakley said. “We had a good winter. The kids are learning and growing as players. We expect a more competitive team that’s tougher to get out and just better at baseball than last year.”

That growth will be tested early and often. Woodward’s schedule was intentionally built to challenge the team, forcing players to rise to a higher level of play. Oakley sees this as a crucial part of development. “Our schedule is tough on purpose,” he explained. “We don’t want young kids to learn that you can play bad and win. There will be a lot of opportunities to grow through adversity.”

At the heart of the team’s culture is players like Jaden Weber, who embody the mindset the program is trying to build. Weber’s impact goes beyond the stat sheet, setting the tone in the locker room and on the field. Oakley describes him as “an outstanding young man” and “the consummate teammate,” praising his work ethic and positive attitude.

With a roster still finding its identity, leadership like Weber’s will be key as the Boomers navigate a demanding season. While wins and losses will matter, the bigger focus remains on development, resilience, and building a foundation for long-term success.

As the season unfolds, Woodward may still be a work in progress, but it’s a team determined to compete, improve, and prove that last year was only the beginning.
