At Kingfisher High School, the energy in the science lab can match the excitement of a softball game, and that’s thanks to Morgan Dutton. In her third year at the school, she teaches Chemistry and Physical Science while also serving as the head high school softball coach and assistant track coach. Balancing equations during the day and guiding athletes in the afternoon, Dutton brings the same passion and care to both the classroom and the field.
“I enjoy building relationships with my students and athletes to the point where they know that they have a space to be themselves and enjoy learning,” she said.
Dutton’s journey to teaching started unexpectedly. While studying in college, she had the chance to work as a teaching assistant in the biology department, an experience that completely reshaped her career goals.
“I wanted to work with kids in some aspect, and while in college, I was given the opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant for the biology department and fell in love with teaching,” she said.
Before joining Kingfisher High, Dutton taught at Newkirk and Rogers High School in Rogers, Arkansas. Across every school, she’s carried the same message: learning begins with connection.
“Relationships drive learning,” she emphasized. “Students work harder for those who make them feel safe, respected, and seen.”
Dutton credits several educators for modeling that kind of impact. In high school, her coach Brady Hamar and English teacher Jennifer Hedges inspired her through their mentorship and encouragement. Later, at college, Dr. Steven Thompson gave her a chance to work alongside him, opening the door to her career in education.
Outside of teaching, Dutton finds joy in family life. She and her husband Bryan are raising two sons, Brady and Brooks. Whether she’s golfing, spending time outdoors, or playing with her boys, she cherishes every chance to enjoy the simple moments.
In both her classroom and her coaching, Morgan Dutton leads with heart, showing her students that success comes not just from hard work, but from the relationships that make learning, and life, meaningful.
