JULIAN JENKINS…making an impact at Chisholm High
By Jay Hoberecht
Julian Jenkins is an 18-year-old senior at Chisholm High School making an impact at a new school. Jenkins moved to Chisholm to play basketball under Cole Hibler. He is involved in basketball, National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). His Mom, Annie Gladden, teaches sixth grade math at Waller Middle School and is the FCA sponsor. His brother, Rowan, is nine.
Jenkins grew up around a ball. His Dad loved the game and taught him what he knew. Julian had a big decision to make this summer and decided to transfer to Chisholm and play basketball for Cole Hibler and the Longhorns. I talked to Coach Hibler, and he had some great things to say about Jenkins. First, Hibler talked about what a great kid he was and about the leadership he brought on and off the court. Hibler called him an “impact player who makes a difference.” He went on to talk about Jenkins, knowing his skills, knowing his role on the floor, and playing unselfishly. Hibler added his was fun to be around!
Jenkins went to Enid High School for three years and was involved in many EHS/ FCA activities. He likes FCA! He attended the recent PASSION Conference at Globe Life Field in Dallas, Texas. Passion is a gathering for the collegiate generation and is open to anyone 18-25 years old. It is an understatement to say PASSION made a difference to Julian. He called it a life-changing experience. Julian shared he had a tough time when three male adult members passed away in a short span of time. He asked the “why” questions and struggled with the new norm. PASSION was a special experience for him as he continues on his journey.
Jenkins wants to go to college and study accounting. University of Central Oklahoma is a strong possibility, but he wants to visit several other universities.
I asked Julian what advice he would give to an eighth-grade boy getting ready for high school. He thought for a moment and talked about being open to opportunities and making good friends. He added “be optimistic and be kind.”
Julian Jenkins is on a journey. He went to a new school in his senior year and is making an impact at Chisholm High School!
