2025 Canton Tigers Football Preview

CANTON TIGERS

Coach: TREVOR KNIGHT

1-9

OFFENSE
The Tigers are entering the 2025 season focused on growth and improvement after last year’s campaign. First-year head coach Trevor Knight is working hard to reshape the program and instill a winning culture. “We are trying to build a culture that does things right and plays with all the effort we have,” Knight said. “We are pretty young, so fundamentals and technique are crucial for us.” A key leader for the Tigers this year will be senior quarterback Landon Vowell (5-10, 180, Sr.). Vowell is a high-character player and a relentless worker who will be instrumental in guiding the offense. Sharing the backfield with him are Landon Williams (5-6, 150, So.), a shifty and determined running back, and Maddox Cooper (5-10, 200, Jr.), a powerful fullback who brings toughness to every snap. Together, they form a dynamic backfield with the potential to do serious damage on the ground. Success for the run game will depend on solid play up front, and the offensive line will be anchored by Brody Martin (5-10, 215, Jr.) and Kris Ruiz (5-10, 215, So.)—two physical linemen who know how to create lanes and set the tone in the trenches.

DEFENSE
Defensively, the Tigers are aiming to be aggressive and fundamentally sound, with a mindset focused on limiting big plays and attacking the football. Up front, Cayden Smith (6-1, 190, So.) at defensive end and Kris Ruiz (5-10, 215, So.) at nose guard will look to disrupt opposing offenses and win the battle at the line of scrimmage. In the linebacker corps, Hunter Daniell (5-11, 230, Jr.) and Maddox Cooper (5-10, 200, Jr.) bring size, physicality, and sharp instincts to the heart of the defense. They’re expected to be active and effective in both run and pass coverage. Patrolling the secondary is none other than Landon Vowell (5-10, 180, Sr.), who will serve as a veteran presence at safety, ready to read plays and make key stops when it counts most. Assisting Coach Knight this season are Tanner Knight and Davey Smith, who bring valuable experience and energy to the sidelines as the Tigers continue to grow and compete.
