The wrestling mat was not where she expected to find herself when she began high school. Known for her years in competitive and high school cheer, it was a surprising twist when her coach and friends encouraged her to try wrestling during her sophomore year.
“My coach and friends asked me to come and wrestle,” she said.
Now a junior at Woodward High School, she has grown into her role on the wrestling team, even though this season presented an early setback with an injury.
“I am just waiting to be released now,” she said. “Being with my team and working on my wrestling has made me better.”
The highlight of her wrestling journey is not a particular match or tournament but the experience of being part of a team. Those bonds and the collective drive have fueled her perseverance through challenges.
“Being a part of the team,” she said, reflecting on what stands out most from her athletic career so far.
Her determination is rooted deeply in the influence of her mother, whom she considers her greatest role model.
“My mom—she has shown me to not give up even when things get hard,” she said.
Outside of her sports commitments, she values time with her friends and keeps her busy life balanced by tackling one priority at a time.
“I prioritize one at a time,” she said, a method that helps her manage the demands of school and sports.
Looking ahead, her focus is clear—she plans to enter the nursing field and has ambitions to become a traveling nurse after graduation.
“I plan on going into nursing and becoming a traveling nurse,” she said.
Her journey in wrestling might still be unfolding, but her resilience and dedication suggest she will approach her future goals with the same commitment she has shown on the mat.
