Balancing four sports while maintaining academic success might seem impossible for most high school students, but for Woodward High School sophomore Kennedy Roach, it’s just another day in her busy life. A multi-sport athlete competing in basketball, cross country, track, and soccer, Kennedy thrives on challenge, passion, and the support of her teammates.
Whether she’s driving down the field as a midfielder for the soccer team or battling in the paint on the basketball court, Kennedy brings intensity and determination to everything she does. “Honestly, what motivates me most is my teammates,” she shared. “They have such positive outlooks on things, and it really helps push me to do better.”
Kennedy’s athletic resume is already impressive, with a standout moment being her individual qualification for the cross country state meet as a freshman—a milestone she considers the highlight of her career so far. “It took hours of practice and strength to get to this point,” she says. “Success hasn’t come easy, but every step has been worth it.”
For Kennedy, the upperclassmen on her teams serve as both mentors and role models. “They help me with the things I struggle with the most,” she said. And when it comes to sharpening her skills, she credits teammate Khloe Clemence as someone who pushes her to reach new speeds and compete harder during practices. “She shows me how fast I’m really capable of going.”
Off the field and track, Kennedy juggles the demands of schoolwork like a pro. “I usually do homework on the bus rides to games or stay up late to finish it. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.”
Through it all, Kennedy never loses sight of what truly drives her: pride in her school and community. “It means so much to me when I get to represent Woodward. It’s an awesome feeling.”
With her work ethic, leadership, and love for the game, Kennedy Roach is setting the standard for what it means to be a student-athlete—and she’s just getting started.
