Woodward’s Brayan Lopez – Presented by Great Plains Bank

One of the greatest things about participation in sports is the ability to be a role model to younger kids and to teach them about the game and show them all of the reasons that they can love it. Brayan not only participates in cross country and track, but also takes time out of his life to coach soccer for Kids Inc., a non-profit organization that allows kids to participate in sports, free of charge. Even Brayan’s coach Kari Custar is impressed with him, saying “Brayan is a sophomore this year. His love for running has increased over the last couple of years. He continues to learn how to be a better and faster runner. It will be exciting to see Brayan run this year.”

Sports have taught Brayan to put his best effort in, have a strong motivation, and be ready for the best but prepare for the worst. He says it takes discipline and you have to keep going even when you don’t feel like it to be a great athlete. The biggest impact in his life has been his family, because they’ve been there for him through his ups and downs. His biggest role models have been his parents. He says “they’ve gone through a lot but still keep on going.”

In his free time, Brayan likes to run and attend Mexican parties put on by his family and friends. He loves to eat Mexican food and dance Mexican dances. His favorite sports moment was when his team made it to a tournament at OSU because they got to spend the night in a hotel, staying up late to play games and watch movies.

In the future, Brayan wants to be a diesel mechanic or a welder. His favorite subject in school is biology because he gets to dissect animals. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Myers. “She helped me and talked me through a lot,” he said. His advice to fellow athletes is to never give up and always try harder.
