Woodward Teacher of the Month – Alisha Williams-Reed – Presented by Advanced Real Estate Advisors

Teaching can be a stressful and tough job at times, but there are also a lot of positive and rewarding times that make it all worth it. Alisha Williams-Reed says that being a part of the process of seeing students become solid citizens is a great thing to be a part of.

“I enjoy meeting students at the first of the year,” she said. “Seeing how far they come in the classroom,  getting to know them as a human not just a student and  watching them as they mature and eventually move on into the world.”

Williams-Reed teaches Civics, Financial Literacy, and Health/Wellness at Woodward High School. This is her first year at Woodward, but before this she also taught at Burns Flat-Dill City, Putnam City, and Buffalo.

Before becoming an educator, Alisha proudly served our country in the military.

“I am a 23 year veteran of the US Army,” she said proudly. “I had an amazing career and traveled many places while serving. A lot of who I am today can be attributed to my time in the military. I have been a staff member for Cadet Lawman with the OK Highway Patrol for 20 years.”

When she was a student, there were teachers that were influential in her life and helped her make the decision to enter the education field.

“I had a couple of teachers and coaches growing up that had a huge impact on me as a child,” she said. “George Auld, Don Greteman, Joe Oliver, Brenda Robertson, and Garline Thomas were the teachers that played a role in my life and helped me determine that I wanted to be a teacher and coach in hopes of making an impact in other’s lives. I wanted to share in their learning journey and help shape them for their future.”

When she is not in the classroom, Alisha has a number of ways that she prefers spending her time.

“I enjoy watching my nieces and nephews compete in sports and their life endeavors,” she said. “I also like riding a motorcycle, traveling, and camping with my husband, Chris, reading, and crafting.”
