Woodward Teacher – Mikayla Wanger – Presented by Brian Cook and Kindra Brown Advanced Real Estate Advisors

Mikayla Wanger is a science teacher at Fort Supply Public Schools. While teaching was not the career she set out to pursue, it is one that has enjoyed being able to do.
“I actually have a master’s degree in Biosystems Engineering,” she said. “I moved to Fort Supply with my husband who is a rancher. I was working for the Oklahoma Department of Health when I learned that the local school was in need of a science teacher. I thought that it was a job that I might enjoy and applied. I love the opportunity to work with students and watch them discover new things. I absolutely love when the students are excited and thinking about things on a deeper level. When they ask questions that are beyond the scope of their class, I get so excited to help them keep the momentum going and see how much they will learn. Some teachers might get upset and feel like they are off topic, but I feel like that curiosity is an amazing thing and I love watching that spark ignite.”

Wanger is in her eighth year teaching, all have been at Fort Supply. When she was a student, there were a number of teachers that played a role in her life. But she has one that made the most influence.

“I had several teachers who left an impact on my life, probably most notably my mom,” she said. “She was an invaluable help to me as I learned how to navigate the ins and outs of lesson planning, classroom management, and so much more.”

Mikayla is married to her husband Kaden and they have two children, ages five and two. When she is not in the classroom teaching, she likes to spend time with family, work on the farm, and work in the garden.
