Woodward Mom of the Month – Lacy Moore – Presented by Pioneer

Youth and high school sports take a lot of involvement from many people to make them successful. Along with the players and coaches, the parents also play a big role in the success of a program. Woodward’s Lacy Moore is both a parent and a coach, and she understands how much it means to have the parents involved.

“I have always tried to volunteer for whatever the teams need,” she said. “Being a part of the Booster Clubs is a big part of helping with each sport. Being a coach myself, I understand how important positive parent involvement is. I also love sharing the photographs I take with the players’ families.”

Lacy is the mother of two. Riley is a freshman at Dodge City Community College, where she plays softball. And Colt is a sophomore at Woodward High School. He plays football, basketball, and runs track. Moore teaches kindergarten at the Woodward Early Childhood Center and was the WHS girls basketball coach last season, but recently decided to step down.

As a working parent, Moore knows that her schedule can make it tough for her to make it to everything. But she makes sure that her kids know that she is supporting them from wherever she is.
“The toughest part is making all the events,” she said. “It’s hard to leave kindergarteners with a sub very often.  It’s also tough to see your kids fail.  Failing is a huge part of sports. The lessons they learn from those failures have taught them so much, but sitting back and letting them fail can be really hard.  Reminding myself this is their journey is something I have to do a lot.”

As an alumnus of Woodward High School, Lacy is proud to have her kids be a part of such a great school district.

“I am a Boomer through and through,” she said proudly. “I graduated from Woodward way back when, and I have loved being able to share that with my kids. I love that I was able to coach my daughter, and I love the amazing support that the community has shown both of my kids.  There are some really great people in Woodward, ones that will cheer and be truly happy watching your kids succeed.  It’s been a great place to grow up and a wonderful place to raise my kids.  Once a Boomer, always a Boomer!  Go Boomers!”
