Woodward High School’s Lexi Mendell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Great Plains Bank of Woodward

Lexi Mendell is currently in between junior and senior year at Woodward High School. She participates in fast-pitch softball, basketball, slow-pitch softball, NHS, FCA, and Pep Club. Lexi began her career in softball since she was around six years old. “Ever since I was old enough to play, my parents had me involved in all of the activities to help me pick what I wanted to pursue,” Lexi says. Lexi has previously been selected as All District Honorable-Mention her sophomore and junior year.

Lexi’s biggest positive impacts have been her parents. Her biggest role model has been her mom. Lexi says “She is my biggest supporter and always someone I can talk to.” Her favorite part about the sport is the friendship that it brings. Lexi’s favorite memory in softball was going to the state tournament with her team. The highest moment in her career so far was when she hit a home run against one of the best pitchers that she’s faced in her sophomore season. When things get tough for her, her teammates and self motivation keep her going.

In her free time, Lexi likes to watch Netflix, hang out with friends, and go to the lake with her family. Her favorite subject in school is math because it has always come easy to her and she enjoys working through the problems. Her favorite teacher was Mr. Stevenson for History in 8th grade. After high school, Lexi currently plans to go to college to be a dental hygienist.

To Lexi, being an athlete means not just putting in hard work at practice but also outside of practice. Sports have helped her develop her leadership skills. The advice that she has for her fellow athletes is to enjoy every part of the sport even through the hard practices or losses, because it goes by fast. “Realizing my senior year is approaching makes me emotional that it’s almost over,” Lexi says.
