Sharon-Mutual’s Mackenzie Bosscawen – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Stephenson Insurance Center

By Rose Hutchins

Mackenzie Bosscawen, a sophomore at Sharon-Mutual High school is no stranger to hard work. As a libero on the volleyball court and committed powerlifter, she understands what it takes to build both physical and mental strength. Through her own drive, Mackenzie has found the value of self-fulfillment and ambition needed to achieve her dreams.

For Mackenzie, success in sports comes from being surrounded by competitive teammates. She credits Raelyn Syms as someone who encourages her to improve her game. Raelyn’s powerful hits challenge her to sharpen her digging skills and improve her skills of reading opposing hitters. In addition to her teammates, she recognizes her coach and parents for their ability to help her gain confidence and guide her through challenges that come with being an athlete. “They support me no matter how I perform,” she shares.

One of Mackenzie’s proudest moments came in 2024 when she placed second at the girls state powerlifting competition.  This year, she has her sights set on bringing home the gold. Beyond her own achievements, Mackenzie encourages others who look up to her to not let a sport, or mistake, define you.

“You are going to make mistakes, but what matters is how you respond to them,” she says.

Outside of sports, Mackenzie stays disciplined in the classroom, using her planner and maximizing her class time so she doesn’t feel stressed after school. It’s this balance, focus, and resilience that truly defines her as an athlete and person.

Representing her community means everything to Mackenzie. She hopes to be seen as a role model, reflecting the values of Sharon-Mutual both on and off the court.

“It makes me proud to wear a Sharon jersey, and I find joy in it,” she said.

As Mackenzie plans for her future, she hopes to attend the University of Oklahoma, where she plans to obtain a degree in criminology or psychology.  She’d also like to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level. With her talent and commitment, Mackenzie is on her way to a bright future.
