Seiling High School’s Stryker Worman
Seiling High School junior Stryker Worman is stepping into a larger leadership role this season, taking on responsibilities at both quarterback and safety while continuing to build on lessons learned through athletics.
Worman, an 11th-grader, said his biggest inspiration comes from close to home.
“My inspiration with one person would be my dad,” he said. “Every day he shows up for me and my team and does anything he can to help us.”
That influence extends beyond family life and into the classroom and athletics. Worman lists math as his favorite subject and credits his father as his favorite teacher.
On the field, Worman is preparing for the mental and physical demands of his new positions. As quarterback, he must understand the entire offense while reading defensive schemes. On defense at safety, he is tasked with recognizing coverages and ensuring teammates are in the correct positions.
“At quarterback, I have to know everybody’s next move and read a defense,” he said. “At safety, I need to know the coverages and roles of everyone.”
Despite the pressure, Worman embraces the opportunity to lead a team he describes as resilient and unified.
“With this team, everyone has shown a lot of heart and grit,” he said. “We have a lot of roles to fill, and everyone understands their part.”
Worman said the relationships he has built with teammates are among the most rewarding aspects of high school athletics.
“Being with some of my best friends, and dad, and playing one of my favorite sports,” he said, describing what he enjoys most about being part of the team.
He also credits teammates Blake Chain, Rush Hunt and Jazin Baker for helping him adjust when he first arrived.
“They took me under their wing and made me feel like I belonged on the field with them,” Worman said.
Among his favorite memories is a dominant state championship performance.
“Walking off the state championship game with the 45-rule,” he said.
Worman said athletics has taught him lessons that extend beyond competition.
“Athletics has taught me trust, friendship, leadership, and the ability to do things when my body says no more,” he said.
Off the field, he spends his free time fishing, hunting and playing baseball, which he said he enjoys most. In a small-town setting like Seiling, Worman appreciates the close-knit environment.
“It’s got to be how spoiled we are for a small school town,” he said.
As for preparation, Worman takes a disciplined approach leading up to game day.
“I start by hydrating days before the game,” he said. “The day of, I eat healthy and pray multiple times before hitting the field.”
One of the more unusual moments in his playing career came during a game when officials nearly intervened because of crowd noise.
“When the refs threatened to end the game because our fans were ‘too loud,’” he said.
With a strong support system and a growing leadership role, Worman continues to develop as both a player and teammate heading into the season.
