Q&A with Woodward’s Luis Soto – Presented by Stride Bank

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Woodward HS?

Soto: The great opportunity I get to run with an amazing team and learn valuable life skills at the same time to have an everlasting experience.

VYPE: What grade are you in and what is your favorite subject?

Soto: I am a junior and my favorite subject is either math or auto at High Plains.

VYPE: What are your best times and where did you run them?

Soto: My best times are both this season when I ran around 19:30 at both Weatherford and Bethany.

VYPE: Is the starting position at the beginning of a race strategic? Explain.

Soto: To me it isn’t as important as many make it to be; once everyone takes off if you’re fast enough you can get around everyone and make it to where you want to be in the race.

VYPE: What are you thinking about on long runs in competition?

Soto: Personally, I think about everything, I’ll try to make up in my head how many miles we have left or think about something entertaining.

VYPE: Where do you like to run, if you’re running for fun or practice?

Soto: The walking trails here in Woodward are perfect for long runs.

VYPE: Which teammate always impresses you the most or do you have a former teammate who left an impression on you?

Soto: For sure Dathan – his times and distances always surprise me.

VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life? Explain.

Soto: My parents always keeping me safe and making sure I get everything I need to be the best athlete I can be.

VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?

Soto: Honestly, I still haven’t planned that out much but I think it would be nice to go to a college and get a degree in something important.
