Q&A with Woodward’s Ella Howard – Presented by Stephenson Insurance Center

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Woodward HS?

Howard: I love playing sports at Woodward because even though it’s a smaller community, we still get the chance to compete against bigger schools. That pushes us to grow, play harder, and get better every time we’re on the field. It’s awesome being part of a team that represents our town but also challenges ourselves against tough competition.

VYPE: What grade are you in and what is your favorite subject?

Howard: I’m in 10th grade, and my favorite subject is math.

VYPE: How long have you been playing softball and what position do you play?

Howard: I’ve been playing since tee-ball when I was five, and now I play second base.

VYPE: If you could play any other position on the field, which would it be?

Howard: If I had to pick another position, I’d say anywhere in the outfield.

VYPE: What is your thought process at the plate?

Howard: Before I bat, I go through a quick mental checklist, keep my eye on the ball, and remind myself: just hit the ball.

VYPE: Where is your favorite place to play and why?

Howard: I like playing second base because it keeps me involved in a lot of plays. I like the challenge of being right in the middle of the action.

VYPE: Who on the team keeps everyone laughing, who is the most serious and who has the best impression of your coach?

Howard: Reggie always keeps everyone laughing—she’s hilarious! Kayleigh is super serious and such a competitor, but she does the best Coach Dauphin impression.

VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life? Explain.

Howard: My mom—she’s such a hard worker. She’s taught me a lot.

VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?

Howard: I definitely plan to go to college. I’m thinking about pursuing a degree in social work.
