With so many opportunities in FFA, it can be tough to decide what you want to participate in as a student. Woodward High School’s Katherine Moffet does not show livestock, so she needed to find an activity she would enjoy.
“The activities that I am involved in with the Woodward chapter are speaking contests, meat and livestock judging. My chapter and I are also involved in community service projects,” Moffet said. “What I enjoy most about being in FFA is the community. The members of FFA have such a happy spirit about them and are ready to learn something about agriculture.”
FFA is not the only program Moffet devotes time to at WHS. She is a member of the cross country team, track team and pep club.
“I love the cross country meets because no matter which team you are on everyone will cheer you on. When I first started cross country, my teammates were pushing me to try my hardest. That is what I love about my teammates,” said Moffet.
Moffet is a freshman at WHS and said she is inspired her teammates and parents.
“Who inspires me as an athlete is one of my teammates, Dathan Custer. Although I know I will never reach his speed, he inspires me not to give up and to push myself to the best of my ability. My parents inspire me outside of school, teaching me to work hard no matter how hard the work is,” said Moffet.
Moffet offers this advice to anyone interested in FFA.
“My advice for students thinking about joining FFA is to get involved because eventually the time you invest will pay off.”
It’s early to think about, but Moffet is looking ahead to life after high school.
“My plans, after graduation, are to attend Oklahoma State University and on to a medical program.”
