The Mooreland Bearcats cross country program is in its eighth year of competition. While there is a lot that goes into starting a new program, head coach Kendra Hoover says that her athletes have worked hard and are having a solid season.
“Both the boys and girls squads are doing a great job holding their own this season,” Hoover said. “Our girls knew we would have a difficult season as the northwestern and western sides of the state are renowned to be a hotbed of talent. The girls are working hard, improving each week and holding their own in the team standings. On the boys side of things, the guys have had a pretty impressive season so far and are working towards extending their success. The guys have run their way to four invitational championships, runner up once and a close third; the losses have come at the hands of three extremely talented and highly ranked teams.”
The team’s motto this season is “Perseverance, the secret of all triumphs”, and Hoover says that her squad does a great job of working through whatever is in front of them.
“We push through all the adversities life throws at us, persevering so we can experience the triumph of the victories both individually and as a team and program,” the coach said. “From the posting marked improvements in our individual performances, to improving our collective efforts on the team front. We look to add more to our State Qualifier list.
The girls team is made up of Lily Lopez, Mady Marshall, Ally Stidham, Kayleigh Scott, and team manager Shayla Crockett. On the boys side, the roster includes Ian Amador, Marco Amador, Jackson Crotts, Josh Crotts, Dean Friend, Reece Hensley, Caleb Kirkendall, Dalton Larson, Xander Nielsen, and team manager Alex Torres.
