Laverne Tigers – Track Spotlight – Presented by The Stock Exchange Bank

The Laverne High School boys track team is gearing up for another exciting season under Head Coach Brady Bailey, who has his sights set on a return to the podium. With a core group of talented athletes returning and a strong offseason of preparation behind them, expectations are high for what this group can achieve.

“This team is hungry to get back on the podium and continue the tradition of excellence we’ve built here at Laverne,” said Coach Bailey.

One of the key leaders driving that pursuit is Gentry Long, a standout runner who has quickly established himself among the best in the state. Long was the runner-up at the State Cross Country Meet this past fall, proving his endurance and competitive spirit. His indoor season has been just as impressive, already bringing home multiple gold medals. Known for his powerful finishing kick and relentless work ethic, Long will be a vital piece of the team’s success this spring as Laverne looks to claim more gold on the track. Teammates and spectators alike know he’s the one to watch, and anyone hoping to challenge him better be ready for his late-race surge.

Another rising star is Keaton Cox, a sophomore coming off a stellar freshman season that turned heads around the state. Cox helped lead the Tigers to Regional Championships in the 800 meters and the 4×800 relay, with both squads medaling at the State Meet. His mix of youthful energy and natural talent makes him a crucial contributor once again this year. Coach Bailey expects Cox to build on that early success and continue making his mark in big meets throughout the season.

With runners like Long and Cox setting the pace, the Laverne boys are poised for another strong campaign. The combination of leadership, experience, and raw athletic potential has created a competitive and confident atmosphere, a team ready to chase championships and inspire excitement across the community.
