What does it take to be successful in sports? It takes a lot more than most would think, but for Hunter Ray, he only focuses on two specific aspects. “Consistency and dedication” is what Hunter says that it takes to be great.
Hunter Ray is in his junior year at Hooker High School and is a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Being a three-sport athlete requires influence and role models who will push you to not give up, Hunter says his biggest influences are his parents.
“My parents are my biggest influence; they have taught me everything I know and have fought hard for me to be in the position I am today” he said. It also takes motivation to be a great three-sport athlete, sadly what motivates Hunter comes from tragedy, “what motivates me is my best friend that tragically passed away, I want to accomplish what he couldn’t himself.”
Three different sports come with many different teammates, but Hunter does have a favorite teammate to work against in practice, saying “Tatum Trimble, he’s a man that plays all the same sports and just someone I can trust, someone that’ll challenge me and make me better in whatever sport it may be.” There are always moments from seasons, highlights that we don’t ever want to forget, and having three sports to choose a favorite from, Hunter couldn’t decide on just one. Hunter says his favorite highlight from his career is “all the time playing with my boys, because you never know when it’s going to be your last time doing it.”
Out of all the things involved in high school sports, the most important is representing your school and community, When asked what it means to him to represent his school and community, Hunter replied saying “It means a lot to me, to be able to play for my community. I’m someone the older people in the community enjoy watching, and it also means a lot to be someone that the younger kids can look up to as a person and athlete.”
