Allie Metcalf is a senior at Hooker High School and she definitely keeps a busy schedule. She is a multi-sport athlete playing softball, basketball, golf, and running track, plus she is involved in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and student council. While juggling extracurriculars and academics, she has learned a thing or two about how to do it with a positive mindset.
“Having good character means always staying positive and lifting up teammates even if things are not going your way,” said Metcalf.
Her softball coach Aaron Ruiz can attest to Metcalf’s character, saying, “Allie is a hard worker, but also a leader on our team. She always does what’s right, and is a great role model for our younger girls!”
Metcalf says that her teammates reciprocate the support and she can count on them.
“As a pitcher, my teammates are so important to me,” she said. “They are always encouraging and helpful. They back me up in the field and make plays.”
Metcalf has played softball since third grade. Through it all, one thing has remained constant.
“I look to my mom as a role model because she has always encouraged me through my high school softball career and supported me through it all,” said Metcalf. “She always makes it to the game despite the long drives.”
After her pre-game habit of praying before taking the field, Metcalf is ready to face her opponents. Her favorite team to compete against is Texhoma, “because we are rivals and we always have a lot of support for those games and a good crowd,” she explained. Her favorite memory so far this season was beating Texhoma not once, not twice, but three times. Not a bad note to end her high school softball career on!
