Buffalo’s Yarely Mesta – Presented by Great Plains Bank

Buffalo High School senior Yarely Mesta is a multisport athlete, playing both softball and basketball from the Buffalo Bison. In softball, Yarely plays the position of catcher, and in basketball, Yarely plays the position of guard. A veteran of both sports, Yarely has played softball for 14 years, and basketball for 10 years.

As far as what motivates her, Yarely proclaimed, “Competitiveness, adrenaline, winning and having fun are things that motivate me.”

Yarely is proud to represent her school and community as a student athlete. Yarely explained, “When I represent my school I try doing it with respect, good manners and a good attitude. Representing my school with these things always me to continue to play for them.”

In regards as to someone that has been a positive influence on Yarely’s life, she looks to more than one individual. Yarely recalled, “Two of my biggest influencers are Patty Gasso and Kinzie Hansen. They both are very positive and energetic people. The turn to God no matter what. They don’t let money and fame get to them, they help out with their community and give back to people. Which is something I would love to do if my future always me to.”

To become successful in sports, Yarely stated, “It has taken practice, effort and dedication that have made me successful sports. In order for you to be successful, you have to push to the best of your abilities and have a great support system. Without any of those things, I would not have succeeded in sports.

Every student athlete has a moment that is a high light of their sports career. Yarely stated, “The highlight moment of my career was probably when I was a freshman in high school and we won districts for the first time in about 15 years.”

Yarely plans on pursuing higher education after graduating from Buffalo High School. Yarely stated, “After graduating high school my plans are to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University, to persuade a career in nursing.”
