MOORELAND BEARCATS
Coach: Clay Stevens
OUTLOOK
The Mooreland Bearcats will lean on young talent and a proven core as they head into the upcoming baseball season under head coach Clay Stevens.
“We will be very young but have some talented kids coming up,” Stevens said.
At the center of that optimism is team MVP Blaze Overton, who brings valuable experience and production on both sides of the ball. “This will be Blaze’s third year starting on varsity,” Stevens said. “Entering his junior year he has been my most consistent hitter the past two years. He also contributes on the mound and plays great defense in the field.”
Overton’s steady bat and versatility give Mooreland a reliable presence in the lineup and on defense, something that will be especially important for a roster built around underclassmen stepping into bigger roles.
One of those rising standouts is sophomore Wyatt VanZee, the Bearcats’ underclassman to watch. “Wyatt is entering his sophomore year following a good freshman season,” Stevens said. “He hit leadoff in every game last year as well as being our top arm on the mound. Look for him to take the next step this coming season.”
With VanZee setting the tone at the top of the order and anchoring the pitching staff, and Overton providing consistency as a veteran run-producer and defender, Mooreland will look to develop its young core quickly while remaining competitive.
Stevens’ outlook reflects a belief that this group’s combination of youth and experience can grow into something special.
