LAVERNE TIGERS
Coach: MATT COX
12-2
OFFENSE
The Tigers came up just one game short of claiming the Class B-I state championship last season. With several key players lost to graduation, head coach Matt Cox understands that this year’s team will face some growing pains. “We will be fairly young and inexperienced this season,” Cox said. “We will have several new starters on both sides of the ball.” Despite the youth, the Tigers have a few dynamic playmakers who will be counted on to lead the way offensively. Senior Trex Carnagey will anchor the receiving corps, lining up at tight end and occasionally at wide receiver. Known for his reliable hands and ability to make contested catches, Carnagey is a dependable target in critical moments. In the backfield, junior running back Zak Masters brings a physical presence to the offense. A strong, downhill runner, Masters is also capable of contributing in the passing game, giving the Tigers a versatile weapon as they look to establish a balanced attack.
DEFENSE The Tigers’ defense was a major strength last season, holding opponents to an average of just 16 points per game. In the playoffs, they allowed only 56 total points, 44 of those coming in the high-scoring championship matchup. This season, the unit will aim to maintain its toughness and intensity. Sophomore linebacker Kade Nichols is expected to be a cornerstone of the defense. A tenacious worker with a high motor, Nichols continues to develop and is poised to take on a larger role. His growth and leadership will be key as the Tigers rebuild and reload on that side of the ball.
