As a freshman, Hayden Mayfield is already making noise in Calumet’s gym and on the softball field. Whether she’s running the offense as point guard on the basketball court or locking down shortstop on the diamond, Hayden’s passion for the game shines through every play.
Her proudest moment so far? Dropping an incredible 51 points in a single basketball game, a performance that left her teammates, coaches, and the crowd in awe.
“Scoring 51 points was definitely something I’ll never forget,” Hayden said. “It gave me confidence and showed me what’s possible when you really trust your team.”
Sports, for Hayden, go beyond wins and stats. They’ve taught her something deeper about life and people.
“Surrounding yourself with the right people will make you happier,” she explained. “It’s not just about talent; it’s about who’s got your back.”
That sense of belonging has been strengthened by teammates like Angie, a senior who helped Hayden understand what teamwork truly means. “She taught me how a team becomes a family,” Hayden said.
When the Calumet community fills the stands, Hayden feels a rush of pride representing her school. “The community coming and showing out to our games means everything,” she said.
Inspiration runs close to home for Hayden. She credits her parents for being her biggest supporters and motivators. At school, her favorite teacher, her ninth-grade science teacher, makes every day fun and engaging. “She’s awesome!” Hayden said enthusiastically.
The best advice she’s ever received keeps her mindset focused and determined:
“We didn’t come this far just to come this far.”
Hayden also draws inspiration from college basketball star Caitlin Clark, admiring her leadership and relentless drive.
As for gratitude, Hayden keeps it simple but heartfelt: “I’d like to give a shoutout to my teammates, they make me better every day.”
With her blend of talent, confidence, and humility, Hayden Mayfield isn’t just representing Calumet; she’s building a name that people are sure to remember.
