Watonga’s Jaidon Turney – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

When Jaidon Turney of Watonga High School entered the eighth grade, she made the decision to join the FFA chapter at school. Now a senior, Turney is still active in FFA and multiple sports at WHS.

“I have always loved to be around animals, and to be outdoors. I have had horses, bottle calves, cats, dogs, and rabbits. So, when being in FFA became an opportunity, I knew I immediately wanted to be a part of it,” said Turney.

Despite not showing livestock, Turney said she enjoys the activities the chapter offers.

“My favorite part of being in FFA is being able to help my community in many different ways and be a leader in my school,” Turney said. “My chapter and I help the community by having a petting zoo, helping with the cheese festival and community Christmas, and having a food drive for the people in our community.”

Aside from FFA, Turney is involved in several sports including basketball, softball, track, and cheer. She’s also a member of community theatre, National Honor Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, and STUCO. Turney said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.

“You learn lots of leadership qualities, as well as make many memories and friends.”

The senior said being around her teammates and competing with them on the court or field is special. Her plans for life after high school include college and pursuing a degree. “I love how close we were as a team. We could talk about anything with each other and never be judged. My team dedicated many hours to getting better and even kept a good attitude throughout the hard times,” Turney said. “After I graduate, I plan on going to a college and getting a Bachelor of Science in nursing. I am unsure what specific type of nurse I want to be, however I have time to do something research and decide.
