Pond Creek-Hunter’s Kyson Davis
Pond Creek High School junior Kyson Davis continues to make an impact as a multi-sport athlete, balancing success on the football field with contributions in basketball and track.
Davis, who plays running back and safety, credits much of his motivation and work ethic to his parents. “My dad and mom, they have always supported me and always motivated me to keep improving,” he said. “They have made me who I am today.”
On the field, Davis has developed a reputation for both his athletic ability and composure. While many athletes rely on music or routines before games, Davis takes a different approach. “I’m probably the most relaxed before the game,” he said. “I don’t listen to music or anything. I’m still always ready for the game.”
Despite his calm demeanor, Davis has experienced his share of memorable and intense moments. One of his favorite memories came during a game against Medford. “When we ran the hook and ladder with me and Blayne, that was the turning point in that game,” he said.
His connection with teammate Blayne Tefft has been especially meaningful. “I’ve known him ever since he moved here, and every time I was at the gym, he was there with me,” Davis said. “He always pushed me to be better.”
Davis said one of the biggest challenges of playing safety is reading offenses correctly. “The most difficult thing about being a safety is having a false pull or the read option,” he said.
Beyond the competition, Davis values the relationships and experiences that come with being part of a team. “The way we bond so well together and how we are all determined to reach our goals,” he said. He also added a lighter note about team life: “The food is always the best perk that comes with being on a team.”
In the classroom, Davis enjoys English, citing Mrs. Riddle as a favorite teacher. Outside of school, he spends time playing video games with friends. “Playing video games with my friends and having our moms yell at us for being too loud,” he said.
Through athletics, Davis has learned lessons that extend beyond sports. “Discipline and perseverance,” he said. “Even when you don’t want to wake up or don’t want to do it when you’re sore, you just have to. That’s life.”
With strong community support and a drive to improve, Davis continues to represent Pond Creek with determination and pride.
