Pond Creek Hunter’s Alana Banks – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Press on Tees & Richards Tree Care

At Pond Creek-Hunter High School, sophomore Alana Banks is already making a name for herself as one of the most dynamic young athletes in the program. As the point guard for the Lady Panthers basketball team, Banks brings leadership, energy, and versatility to every game. While she thrives in the role of floor general, her ability to adapt allows her to step into any position the team needs. That flexibility and unselfishness have made her a cornerstone of the team’s success.

“I never want to feel like I’ve reached my full potential,” Banks said. “Even when I’m doing good, I remind myself there is always someone out there working harder.”

That mindset drives her both on and off the court. Her competitive nature extends into track and field, where she competes in the relays, the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, long jump, and hurdles. Whether she’s running down the straightaway or leading a fast break, her speed and focus set her apart. Yet for Banks, her motivation isn’t just about personal goals, it’s about the people around her.

“I find motivation in my teammates,” Banks said. “Seeing their hard work and dedication inspires me to push even more.”

Her positive attitude and commitment to improvement have been influenced heavily by Coach White, whom Banks describes as one of her biggest inspirations.

“Coach White is an amazing coach and always puts others before herself,” said Banks, who credits her coach for teaching her to believe in herself. “She believes in us even when we doubt ourselves.”

One of the defining moments of her young career came last season when Pond Creek-Hunter entered the postseason as the sixth seed, facing a tough third-seeded opponent. Banks scored 20 points before fouling out near the end of the game. Instead of hanging her head, she cheered from the sidelines as her teammate Violet stepped up and hit the game-winning shot. That moment, Banks said, reminded her what being part of a true team is all about: trust, belief, and shared success.

Off the court, Banks is just as dedicated. She is actively involved in FCCLA and student council, showing the same leadership and enthusiasm she brings to athletics.

“For me, success starts with my faith in God,” Banks said. “He gives me the strength and ability to be who I am today. He also teaches me patience and humility are a huge part of being successful. I honor Him by being humble and respectful to everyone, even when it’s hard.”

With her faith as her foundation and her relentless drive to improve, Banks continues to set an example for her peers. Her passion, humility, and work ethic show that greatness begins not with talent alone, but with heart, dedication, and a desire to get better every day.
