A winning season. A bonded team. A faithful heart. For Madison Dorrell, her senior year at Oklahoma Bible Academy has been the culmination of years of growth—both on and off the field. “This season is one of our best seasons,” she said. “All of the girls are very tight knit this year and we have all grown closer for our love of this sport and the Lord. I’ve gotten closer to a lot of the freshmen this season and in a sense taken them under my wing.”
Dorrell’s softball journey began in middle school. “I started playing softball in middle school because my friends were playing, which led to my love for the sport,” she said. That love has grown into a deeper passion fueled by mentorship and faith. “OU softball has been a big influence for me and Jocelyn Alo has also been a key influencer in my career. We share some of the same core values such as strong faith in the Lord and our competitiveness.”
Now a seasoned leader, Madison’s role on the team is clear. “My role on this team is left fielder and to prepare for it I take a lot of grounders and so many pop flys. I also go to a hitting coach which helps my batting tremendously.”
From tough seasons in the past to recent program-defining victories, Dorrell has seen the highs and lows. “During my sophomore year we went 0-22… but we had a group of girls who kept their spirits high every game.” That spirit has paid off. “Last season, my team won the Cherokee Strip Tournament, which had never been done before in OBA’s history.”
Looking ahead, she sees a life of service. “After high school, I am planning on going to Northern Oklahoma College where I will get my pre-bachelor in nursing in hopes of becoming a nurse midwife someday.”
While her athletic career may soon be behind her, Madison’s pride lies in the legacy she leaves. “I’m proud that my team has made our softball program into something that it’s never been and also giving glory to God while doing it.”
