Excelling as a two-sport athlete is a task very few high school athletes can do, it comes with hours of hard work and dedication, making motivation something to look for. Football and baseball are sports where motivation is key to success, while motivation can be hard to come by for some, for others it can be found through the little things. Liam Berry has found motivation from his faith in Jesus Christ. “My motivation is bringing glory to God with sports” he said. “It means a lot to represent Christ on the field, to play hard and honor God through the way you play.” Going into his junior year at Oklahoma Bible Academy, Liam Berry plays cornerback, wide receiver, and occasionally quarterback for his football team. On the baseball field, he plays middle infield as well as outfield.
Off the field, he is involved in his school’s book club. His success on the field comes from his own demanding work, but also through the help of teammates that push him to be great. “Ian Burnet and Andrew Cambell are the best to practice against because they make me work hard” he stated. When it comes to who influences Liam Berry on the field as well as off the field, he easily said his greatest influence comes from his football coach Jay Mendenhall. “My biggest role model is my football coach Jay Mendenall,” he said. “He influences me in a positive way to honor God and make myself better.” Another person Liam looks up to is Bryce Harper. “He is my favorite player” he said. He has put in the work to become a talented player both on the football field and on the baseball diamond. Through the work, Liam has seen the payoff on the field. “It has been working hard and having fun” he explained. “I don’t really have an opponent that I like beating more than the rest, but the highlight moment of my career was getting an interception in a playoff game last year.”
