Oklahoma Bible Academy’s Benjamin Burrell – Football Spotlight

For Oklahoma Bible Academy junior Benjamin Burrell, being a multi-sport athlete isn’t just a commitment; it’s a lifestyle. Burrell competes year-round in football, basketball, and baseball, excelling in a variety of roles. On the football field, he lines up as a tight end, defensive end, and defensive back, showcasing both versatility and toughness. During basketball season, he transitions to the backcourt as a guard, and once spring arrives, he anchors the baseball team from center field while also taking the mound as a pitcher.

At the core of Burrell’s drive is his own competitiveness. He’s motivated by the desire to push himself, grow, and rise above challenges. He also credits his coaches, especially his father, for being his biggest role models. “They push me every day to be not only a better player but a better man,” Burrell says.

Academically and spiritually, one teacher stands out above the rest: Mr. Mendenhall, his Bible teacher. “He’s had the biggest impact on my life because he’s more focused on my walk with Christ and my growth as a man than the grade I get,” Burrell explains.

Success, he believes, comes from intentional effort. While others might spend weekends relaxing, Burrell is out practicing, sharpening his skills so he can perform when it matters most. That work has paid off with memorable achievements, most notably helping lead OBA baseball to the regional finals for the first time in school history during his sophomore season.

In football practice, he enjoys competing against Jacoby Justus, whose intensity and consistency provide a daily challenge. Burrell also highlights Hudson Zelnicek as one of OBA’s most underappreciated athletes, someone who works hard, stays positive, and impacts the team in ways not everyone sees.

Off the field, Burrell follows fitness creator Jeff Nippard, whose training advice fuels his passion for working out and building strength.

Balancing academics and athletics takes discipline, and Burrell stays ahead by completing work in class and keeping himself organized. Representing OBA means more to him than just wearing a uniform; it’s an opportunity to honor his school, compete in the sports he loves, and represent Christ in everything he does.
