TEAM OUTLOOK
After reaching the state tournament in 2024, the Oklahoma Bible Academy Trojans return with a retooled roster and high expectations. Head coach Randy Roth is focused on the potential of his young core, which includes a mix of experienced leadership and emerging talent. “We have three returning starters from a state tournament team,” said Roth. “Some really strong young players are ready to step into big roles for this team.”
With a competitive early-season schedule ahead, the Trojans will be tested right out of the gate. “We’re heading to the Verdigris Tournament early on,” said Roth.
The centerpiece of OBA’s attack is senior outside hitter Lucia Groendyke. A three-year starter and the team’s most valuable player, Groendyke will command attention from opposing defenses all season long. “She is the girl that the other teams will be keying on,” said Roth. Her presence on the court gives the Trojans a consistent weapon and a calming leader in tight moments.
Sophomore Kayla Cunningham is expected to make a leap this season after seeing the floor as a freshman. “She will be called on to fill some big shoes that were left by departing seniors,” Roth said. Cunningham’s development could be key in keeping OBA’s offense dynamic and versatile.
Freshman Izzy Davis is another name to watch. “She will likely step into big roles and see significant playing time for the varsity this season,” said Roth. Her readiness will be crucial as the Trojans look to maintain their status as a contender.
OBA’s roster includes more than just athletic talent. Senior Kinzi Jo McAlister embodies the spirit of the program. “She is the ultimate teammate,” Roth said. “When she isn’t on the court, she is yelling by her lungs out for the team. She supports her school in every area possible.”
With a foundation of leadership, promising underclassmen, and a tradition of postseason play, the 2025 Trojans are poised for another exciting season.
