Maddelyn “Maddie” Brickman is a 17-year-old senior at Okeene High School. She is one busy young woman! She is part of a fifth-generation land and cattle company and loves to compete with her horses Platinum and Jackie. That is only the beginning!
Maddie is involved in school being the Junior class Secretary and will likely run for Senior Class President and President of Student Council in the fall. She goes to FCA at OHS and attends First Baptist Church Sunday mornings and goes to Okeene Methodist Church for their youth group. She is a football manager, runs cross country, starting point guard on the basketball team and runs track. She is in National Honor Society and is part of the Oklahoma Historical Preservation Group.
The OHS/FCA huddle averages around 40+ kids and meets monthly. They meet to pray, plan activities and encourage one another. Maddie’s FCA sponsor Reese Brickman talked about the school’s commitment to FCA. He talked about Maddie’s involvement in FCA since her seventh-grade year and her high character. Maddie’s leadership makes her a special senior girl. Reese talked about her competitive side and at the same time her ability to treat others so well. The FCA group sponsors activities like See You at the Pole, Fields of Faith, Court of Praise (Fields of Faith on the court) and Game Days (OSU or OU).
Sports are a big part of Maddie’s life. She has been the starting point guard since her freshman year. Basketball coach Patrick Penner, thinks Maddie will have a big senior season for the Lady Whippets.
Track Coach, Tanner Allen, called Maddie a “super, dependable teammate with a great heart. She looks to return to the State Meet again in the spring in the relays and hurdles. Competing in the 2025 State Track Meet with her older brother was an “awesome” experience.
Maddie plans to attend OSU (already accepted) and major in Animal science and is interested in becoming a Veterinary doctor specializing in equine surgery.
I asked Maddie about what advice she would give a student just entering high school. She paused and replied, “Don’t be afraid to get involved.” She went on to say friends are very important. Keep good people around you because it makes for better decisions.
While I was making the short drive back to Enid, I thought I should check in with Maddie and see how her senior year goes! I smiled and realized it would be May in a flash, and she will have some lifetime memories and be ready to go to OSU. I know she will make the most of your senior year!
