Okarche’s Lawson Geheb – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Carter Chevrolet

By Ariel Casida

Lawson Geheb is a sophomore at Okarche High School. She participates in softball, basketball, student council, BETA Club, Letterman’s Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Lawson has been playing softball since she was six years old, getting her start from her parents who coached her at that time.

A famous quote by Jesse Owens says that “friendships are born on the field of athletic strife and the real gold of competition.” For Lawson, this is true as well, because her favorite things about softball are the friendships and relationships that you form and gain from it.

The highest moment in her career so far was when she pitched a perfect game. Her favorite team moment in softball was when her team was only one game away from the state tournament during her freshman year.

The people that have made the biggest positive impacts on her life are her hitting coach, Mike Madden, and her pitching coach, Nickie Madden. Her biggest role model is Jordy Bahl, a three-time NFCA First Team All-American softball pitcher, named NFCA DI Player of the year in 2025, making Jordy a great person to look up to within the softball world.

Sports have taught Lawson that she can overcome any obstacle. She previously had a career-ending injury to her back in eighth grade and was told that she could never play again. However, she has since been blessed to overcome it and continues playing the game that she loves and has the future ahead of her with softball that she has been steadily working towards.

When things get tough for Lawson, her faith in God to help her conquer anything is what keeps her motivated. The advice that she has for her fellow athletes is not to give up on your dreams, no matter what obstacles stand in your way, and like Philippians 4:13 says, with God, all things are possible.

In her free time, Lawson likes to build big Lego sets with her sister, Harper, and hang out with her friends. Her favorite subject in high school is English because she is good at writing stories. Her favorite teachers are Mrs. Riedlinger and Mrs. Rother, because “they have always gone above and beyond to help me in class,” she says.

After high school, Lawson plans to continue to play softball at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in criminology.
