Medford High School senior Austin Kalblinger is a multisport athlete, playing football, basketball, and track for the Medford High School Cardinals. In football, Austin plays the positions of tight end and defensive tackle, while in basketball, Austin plays the position of forward. Many would consider Austin a sports veteran having played football for 11 years, basketball for 10 years, and track for 4 years.
Austin is proud to represent both his school and community as a student athlete. Austin elated, “To play for my school and community means a lot to me. Both school and community have supported us and always make a great atmosphere to play in no matter the distance of games.”
To have become successful in sports, Austin stated, “It takes a lot of hard work and discipline to be successful in sports. It also takes a lot of passion and ‘want to.’ I love working with my senior teammates in all sports because coming from a small town, we have all known each other our entire lives.”
As far as a role model, Austin looks to both friends and family as a source. Austin stated, “My family and friends motivate me, and keep me going. My mom has been one of my biggest role models because she has been the strongest person in my life.”
Many students have a teacher that has had a positive impact on their life. Austin stated, “My math and science teacher, Mr. Price, has made a huge impact on my life. He has always been pushing me to succeed in my school work and outside of that.”
In regards to a professional athlete that Austin looks up to, Austin stated, “My favorite athlete is Baker Mayfield because he was always a true underdog. He found success as an athlete; despite the criticism he received.”
In addition to being a tri-athlete for Medford High School, Austin is also involved with other extracurricular activities. Austin stated, “I participate in Student Council and The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, while also being a part of The National Honor Society.”
