Ryan Scammahorn was in the sixth grade when he joined the local 4-H Club and eventually joined the FFA chapter at Kingfisher in the eighth grade. It was a family member who encouraged him to join.
“My sister was in FFA and encouraged me to join,” Scammahorn said. “I enjoy the adventures and the friendships I make on the way. My eighth grad year, I was part of OCC (Opening and Closing Ceremonies), Milk Quality products, and Ag issues. This year, I am part of Greenhand, Quiz Bowl, and Ag Issues. I was able to go to National Convention to participate in the Milk Quality Products competition.”
Now a freshman, Scammahorn currently shows swine and is active in the Northwest Oklahoma pig show circuit. FFA is not the only activity for Scammahorn.
“I participate in basketball, cheerleading, softball, and golf teams. I am Freshman Class President and help Student Council with activities and projects,” said Scammahorn.
Scammahorn plays wing on the basketball team and said she loves being part of the team.
“I love how encouraging my teammates are. They support you through thick and thin.”
The freshman said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.
“Be open to new things and find the area that fits what you like. There are so many different things, and your advisors will help you find what you can be successful in,” said Scammahorn.
