Kingfisher Yellowjackets Football Preview – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

KINGFISHER YELLOWJACKETS

Coach: REAGAN ROOF

4-7

OFFENSE

For the Yellowjackets, a new football season brings a new head coach and some excitement around the program. Reagan Roof takes over a program that ended last season at 4-7 and a first-round playoff exit. Roof is ready to hit the field and see what his team can do in his first season. “We will be in a competitive district, but our season looks promising with several returning starters,” he said. “With a new head coach, the players are buying into the new change and terminology. We are looking forward to the upcoming season.” Jhett Birdwell (6-3, 195, Jr.) threw for 713 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He has the athletic ability to play multiple positions on the offensive side of the ball. One of his targets from last season is back. Kasen Blair (6-0, 190, Jr.) had 23 catches for 283 yards and a score and will look to contribute bigger numbers this season. Anchoring the offensive line will be Landon Rempe (6-3, 315, Sr.).

DEFENSE

The Yellowjacket defense gave up an average of just 17 points per game last season. They will look to some key players to help lead this side of the ball and try to lower that average this season. At linebacker will be Jairo Velarde (5-10, 180, Sr.), who had 74 tackles and an interception last season. Wreaking havoc up front will be Daniel Guerrero (6-2, 225, Sr.). He registered 44 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and a sack last season and will continue to be a force. Blair is coming off a season that saw him accumulate 39 tackles and two interceptions. He will be at cornerback this season and work to shutdown opposing wide receivers. Assistant coaches this season are Stanley Blundell, Derek Patterson, Ezekial Waltman, Keaton Callins, Timmy Winans, Dylan Blundell, and Brad Pennock.
