Garber High School’s Kole Honeywell
Garber High School sophomore Kole Honeywell is already building a reputation as a versatile athlete and committed teammate, balancing multiple roles on the field while staying active in academics and the community.
Honeywell, who plays running back, defensive back and contributes on special teams, said his approach to athletics is rooted in lessons learned from his grandfather.
“It would definitely have to be my grandfather,” Honeywell said. “He never gave up when it came to a close football game or when times were tough with farming. He always knew if you put in hard work and kept your head down you could succeed.”
That mindset shows up in Honeywell’s play, especially in high-pressure moments. One of his favorite memories came during an eighth-grade game against Pond Creek-Hunter.
“They were on our 10-yard line,” he said. “Their quarterback took the snap, and I met him in the A gap, strip sacked him and took it 90 yards to the house.”
While big plays stand out, Honeywell said the relationships built through football matter most.
“We are always willing to show up for each other both on and off the field,” he said. “It’s about friendships that will last a lifetime.”
He credits teammate Aiden Johnson for pushing him to improve.
“He always pushes me to my full potential,” Honeywell said. “I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
Off the field, Honeywell stays busy with a range of activities. He is a member of the Garber FFA chapter, participates in the academic team, plays baseball and is involved with Antelope Valley Church. He also commentates high school basketball games on Skordle.tv.
In his free time, he enjoys showing cattle and playing pool, reflecting his strong connection to agriculture and small-town life.
“Not many people think living in a small town would be really fun, but it is amazing to see what happens when people come together,” Honeywell said.
As he prepares for his sophomore year, Honeywell continues to focus on growth, both mentally and physically. He said one of the biggest lessons athletics has taught him is perseverance.
“Don’t ever quit when times get tough,” he said. “If you quit on the things that are hard, you’ll find out just how much you miss it later on in life.”
